Details

The Blackout strips a jiu-jitsu gi down to one idea: no fuss, no stains you can see, no colour to fade. A 450 GSM pearl-weave jacket and ripstop pants come dyed deep black from collar to cuff, and the look does the rest.

Is an all-black gi actually competition legal?

Yes. Black is one of only three colours the IBJJF approves for competition, so this gi is tournament-ready as long as it meets standard measurement and patch rules. It is not a training-only colour.

Why go fully black?

Black is the lowest-maintenance colour on the mat. It swallows mat grime, sweat shadows, and the marks that make a white gi look tired, so it reads fresh for longer between washes and keeps a sharp, stealthy profile.

Who is it for?

Grapplers who want one tonal, competition-legal gi that looks clean at a tournament and forgives a long week of training in between.

Care: wash cold inside out, hang dry, no bleach, and wash separately for the first few cycles to clear excess dye.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Blackout BJJ Gi legal for IBJJF competition?
Yes. Black is one of three IBJJF-approved competition colours, alongside white and blue, so a fully black gi is legal for registered events as long as it meets the standard sizing and patch rules.
Does a black gi fade or show wear quickly?
A black gi hides mat dirt and sweat marks far better than white, which is part of its low-maintenance appeal. Wash cold inside out and hang dry to keep the dye deep, since heat is what dulls dark cotton.
What weave and weight is the Blackout gi?
It uses a 450 GSM pearl-weave jacket, the standard modern jiu-jitsu jacket build, with ~250 GSM ripstop cotton pants. That keeps it durable for daily training without crossing into heavyweight territory.
Will black dye rub off on training partners or white belts?
Quality dark gis can bleed slightly when brand new. Wash the gi separately for the first two or three cycles in cold water and the excess dye clears, after which transfer onto a partner or belt is negligible.
Who should buy an all-black gi?
Anyone who wants a stealthy, low-maintenance kit that still competes. It suits grapplers who train often, dislike visible stains, and like a clean tonal look that works at both class and IBJJF tournaments.
