A great BJJ gi balances four things: weave, weight, fit and competition legality. AUN Sports gis use pearl weave cotton that is light enough for fast movement yet tough enough to survive years of rolls, with reinforced collars and ripstop pants.
How do you choose a jiu jitsu gi?
- Weave: pearl weave is the modern standard, strong and breathable.
- Weight (GSM): lighter gis move faster; heavier gis last longer and resist grips.
- Fit and sizing: use the A1 to A4 size chart; a legal fit matters for competition.
- Legality: for tournaments, choose an IBJJF-legal gi.

Which gi weight should you choose?
Fabric weight decides how a gi feels and how long it lasts. Every gi below is pearl weave cotton with a reinforced collar and ripstop pants.
| Weight | Best for | Trade-off | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300 GSM ultra light | Hot gyms, weight cuts, training twice a day | Wears faster under heavy grip fighting | Ultra Light |
| 450 GSM pearl weave | Daily training and competition, the default pick | Balanced, no significant trade-off | Competition and IBJJF Legal |
| 550 GSM heavyweight | Grip-heavy rolling, cold gyms, years of service | Warm to train in and slower to dry | Heavyweight and Premium |
Is a lightweight gi legal for IBJJF competition?
Yes. The IBJJF sets no minimum fabric weight. It regulates colour, cut, sleeve and trouser length, collar thickness and patch placement, so a 300 GSM gi clears the same measurement check as a 550 GSM one. Colour is the real constraint: white, royal blue or black, and the whole gi must match.
