Details

The RONIN BJJ rashguard in short sleeve breaks from the rest of the range on colour: a sand body with olive raglan sleeves and side panels, carrying engraved Japanese wave artwork across the chest and down the arms. The design is sublimated, so the dye is bonded into the fibres rather than printed on top and will not crack, peel or fade.

Why short sleeves for no-gi?

Airflow. In a packed academy in summer, the difference between a short and a long sleeve is the difference between finishing the class and counting down the rounds. You give up the forearm cover that long sleeves provide against mat burn, but nothing grips at the elbow and the top dries faster between sessions. The 88% polyester, 12% spandex knit stretches four ways, and flatlock seams sit flat so nothing rubs.

  • Engraved Japanese wave artwork, fully sublimated.

  • 88% polyester, 12% spandex compression knit, around 220 GSM.

  • Short raglan sleeves in contrast olive, cut for free shoulder movement.

  • Flatlock seams and a moisture-wicking knit that dries fast between sessions.

Who is it for?

Made for grapplers who are tired of black and every shade of blue. Sand and olive is an unusual palette on a mat, and the engraved wave work reads as traditional rather than sportswear, which suits people who came to jiu jitsu through the martial art rather than the fight sport.

Can I get it in academy colours?

Yes. Send your academy colours and logo and we rebuild the design around them, with artwork returned for approval before production. The minimum order is 10 pieces and sizes can be mixed.

How do I care for it?

Machine wash cold inside out with like colours and hang dry. Do not iron the print, bleach, or tumble dry on high. Sand shows marks sooner than black, so wash it after every session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I get a short sleeve or long sleeve BJJ rashguard?
Long sleeve if mat burn on your forearms is the problem, short sleeve if heat is. Full sleeves put fabric between your arms and the mat during ground work, which is why most people who train no-gi daily end up preferring them. Short sleeves run cooler and feel less restrictive in a warm academy. Neither is more correct, so pick by the gym you actually train in.
Do I have to wear a rashguard for no-gi?
Most academies require one, and the reason is hygiene as much as comfort. A rashguard keeps your sweat off the mat and off your partner, and it cuts the bare-skin contact that spreads ringworm and staph in a training room. It also stops the mat taking skin off your back and shoulders.
Can I wear a rashguard under my gi?
Yes, and plenty of people do. It stops the gi jacket chafing, wicks sweat away from the skin, and keeps the inside of the gi cleaner between washes. IBJJF gi competition rules on what may be worn under the jacket differ for men and women, so check the current rule book if you plan to compete in it.
Is this rashguard legal for IBJJF no-gi competition?
Do not assume so. IBJJF no-gi rules have required the rashguard to carry a portion of the athlete's rank colour, and those requirements are revised between rule book versions. These designs are not rank-marked, so treat them as training wear and check the current IBJJF rule book for your division before you compete.
How should a BJJ rashguard fit?
Tight enough that it stays flat when a grip pulls on it, loose enough that you can breathe fully. There should be no slack fabric at the waist or armpit for a partner to grab. If you are between sizes and want more room across the chest, size up.
Can I get it in academy colours?
Yes. Every colourway is a starting point rather than a fixed catalogue item. Send your academy colours and logo and we rebuild the design around them, then return artwork for sign-off before production. The minimum is 10 pieces per order and sizes can be mixed freely across the run.
