Details

The STRIKE judo spats are full-length compression tights built to live under the judogi: a black base with royal blue and white brush graphics sweeping down one leg, and AUN Sports branding at the hip. The design is sublimated, meaning the dye is bonded into the fibres rather than printed on top, so it will not crack, peel or fade.

Why would a judoka wear spats?

Three reasons, and none of them are cosmetic. They keep the legs warm through a long warm-up in a cold dojo. They stop gi pants rubbing the knees raw during repetitive uchikomi and drilling. And they cover the skin for ne-waza sessions run out of the gi, where bare legs pick up mat burn. The 88% polyester, 12% spandex knit stretches four ways so nothing pulls when you drop for a throw, and flatlock seams sit flat behind the knee.

  • Warmth and knee comfort under gi pants during heavy drilling.

  • 88% polyester, 12% spandex compression knit, around 220 GSM.

  • Four-way stretch, so nothing restricts the drop into a throw.

  • Flatlock seams and a moisture-wicking knit that dries fast.

Are they legal under the judogi in competition?

Do not assume so. IJF contest rules govern what may be worn under the judogi and differ for men and women, and they are revised between rule book versions. These are training wear. Check the current IJF rule set for your event before you compete in them.

Who is it for?

Made for judoka who drill in volume and have the knees to prove it, for anyone training in a cold dojo, and for clubs running ne-waza out of the gi who want squad kit in one design.

Complete the set

They pair with the STRIKE judo rashguard, and the STRIKE judo shorts layer over the top for groundwork. Browse more judo spats and judo gear.

Can we get them in club colours?

Yes. Send your club colours and crest and we rebuild the design around them, with artwork returned for sign-off before production. The minimum is 10 pairs and sizes can be mixed across juniors and seniors.

How do I care for them?

Machine wash cold inside out with like colours and hang dry. Do not iron the print, bleach, or tumble dry on high.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wear spats under judo pants?
For training, yes, and judoka do it for warmth in a cold dojo and to stop the gi pants chafing the knees during drilling. For IJF contest the rules restrict what may be worn under the judogi, so treat this as training wear and check the current rule set before a competition.
Why would a judoka want spats?
Three reasons: they keep the legs warm through a long warm-up, they stop gi pants rubbing the knees raw during repetitive drilling, and they cover the skin for ne-waza sessions run out of the gi. The compression also supports the quads and hamstrings across a heavy session.
Are spats allowed in judo competition?
Do not assume so. IJF contest rules govern what may be worn under the judogi and differ for men and women, and they are revised between rule book versions. Check the current IJF rule set for your event rather than relying on what was allowed last season.
Can I wear shorts over them?
Yes, and that is the usual look for ne-waza and conditioning work out of the gi. The matching judo shorts are cut to layer over these.
How should spats fit?
Tight through the whole leg with no bagging behind the knee, and long enough to reach the ankle. If they slide down during a session they are too big. Sizes run XXS to XXL, so take your normal compression size.
