Details

The STRIKE BJJ spats are full-length no-gi compression tights built for grappling: a black base with royal blue and white brush graphics sweeping down one leg, and AUN Sports branding at the hip. The design is sublimated, meaning the dye is bonded into the fibres rather than printed on top, so it will not crack, peel or fade.

Why wear spats for no-gi?

Spats put a layer between your skin and the mat. That means less mat burn down the shins and knees, and less bare-skin contact with a surface a whole room has been training on, which is the main hygiene argument for wearing them. The 88% polyester, 12% spandex knit has four-way stretch so nothing pulls when you invert or shoot, and flatlock seams sit flat behind the knee where a raised seam would rub.

  • Full leg coverage for less mat burn and less bare-skin mat contact.

  • 88% polyester, 12% spandex compression knit, around 220 GSM.

  • Four-way stretch for guard retention, inversions and scrambles.

  • Flatlock seams and a moisture-wicking knit that dries fast between sessions.

Who is it for?

Made for no-gi grapplers and academies who want leg cover without losing mobility. The compression fit supports the quads and hamstrings through long rounds, and the full length suits anyone who trains often enough that mat burn has become a recurring problem.

Complete the set

The STRIKE spats share a design with the STRIKE BJJ rashguard and the STRIKE BJJ shorts, which layer over the spats for no-gi. Explore more jiu jitsu spats and no-gi gear.

Can I get them in team colours?

Yes. Send your academy colours and logo and we rebuild the design around them, with artwork returned for approval before production. The minimum order is 10 pairs and sizes can be mixed.

How do I care for them?

Machine wash cold inside out with like colours and hang dry. Do not iron the print, bleach, or tumble dry on high.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are BJJ spats and why wear them?
Spats are full-length compression tights worn for no-gi grappling. They cover the legs so you are not dragging bare skin across the mat, which cuts mat burn and lowers the risk of picking up ringworm or staph from a shared surface. They also keep the leg muscles warm and supported through long rounds.
Do you wear shorts over BJJ spats?
Most people do, and many gyms prefer it. Spats alone are fine for training, and layering a pair of grappling shorts on top is the common look for no-gi. Either way works, so wear what your academy is comfortable with.
Are spats legal for IBJJF no-gi competition?
IBJJF no-gi rules do allow compression tights, but the requirements on length, colour and what may be worn over them change between rule set revisions. Check the current IBJJF rule book for your division before you compete rather than relying on last season.
Can I wear spats under my gi?
Yes, and plenty of people do for warmth and to stop gi pants chafing the knees. Competition rules on what you may wear under gi pants differ by federation, so check your rule set if you plan to compete in them.
How should spats fit?
Tight through the whole leg with no bagging behind the knee, and long enough to reach the ankle. If they slide down during a round they are too big. Sizes run XXS to XXL, so take your normal compression size.
