Details

The RONIN judo rashguard in short sleeve is the sand and olive option in our judo base layer line: a sand body with olive raglan sleeves and side panels, carrying engraved Japanese wave artwork. The design is sublimated, so the colour sits inside the fibres and will not crack, peel or fade.

Short sleeve or long sleeve under the judogi?

Long sleeve if gripping is costing you forearm skin, short sleeve if heat is the bigger problem. Full sleeves are the better answer to a heavy judogi dragging on the arms every time a grip breaks, and that is what most judoka reach for. This one is for summer sessions, hot dojos, and ne-waza and conditioning work where the jacket is off and airflow matters more than abrasion cover.

  • Short raglan sleeves in contrast olive, cut for airflow in a warm dojo.

  • Engraved Japanese wave artwork, fully sublimated.

  • 88% polyester, 12% spandex compression knit, around 220 GSM.

  • Flat, non-bulky build that will not bunch under the jacket when gripped.

Is it legal for IJF competition?

No, and it is worth being clear about that. Under IJF contest rules women wear a plain white or off-white t-shirt or body suit under the jacket, and men wear the judogi against the skin. A printed sand and olive rashguard is training wear. Check the current IJF rule set for your competition before you pack it.

Who is it for?

Made for judoka training through summer and for clubs that want something with a traditional feel rather than a sportswear graphic. If forearm burn from gripping is your complaint rather than heat, take the long sleeve, which also carries the judo kanji on the chest.

Complete the set

It matches the RONIN judo shorts and the RONIN judo spats. For gripping work, see the RONIN long sleeve. Browse more judo rashguards and judo gear.

Can we get it in club colours?

Yes. Send your club colours and crest and we rebuild the design around them, with artwork returned for sign-off before production. The minimum is 10 pieces and sizes can be mixed across juniors and seniors.

How do I care for it?

Machine wash cold inside out with like colours and hang dry. Do not iron the print, bleach, or tumble dry on high.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wear a rashguard under a judogi?
For training, yes, and it is common. For IJF competition the rules are strict: women must wear a plain white or off-white t-shirt or body suit under the jacket, and men wear the jacket against the skin. Treat this rashguard as training and randori wear, and check the current IJF rule set before a contest.
Why long sleeves for judo?
The judogi is heavy, stiff cotton and it drags across the forearms every time a grip is broken. Long sleeves put a smooth layer between your skin and that weave, which is the main reason judoka wear them under the jacket for high-volume gripping and randori.
Will a rashguard make the gi too hot?
It adds a layer, but the fabric is a thin moisture-wicking knit at around 220 GSM rather than another cotton layer. It pulls sweat off the skin instead of holding it, which is why many judoka find it more comfortable under a heavy double-weave jacket than bare skin.
Can I use it for newaza and no-gi grappling too?
Yes. It is the same compression build used for no-gi grappling, so it works for newaza, ground drilling and conditioning as well as under the judogi. Full sleeves also cut mat burn on the forearms during ground work.
How should it fit under the gi?
Snug all over, with no loose fabric to bunch under the jacket when someone takes a grip. Sleeves should reach the wrist and stay there. If you are between sizes, take the smaller one for a base layer so it stays flat under the judogi.
Can we get it in club colours?
Yes. Send your club colours and crest and we rebuild the design around them, then return artwork for sign-off before production. The minimum is 10 pieces per order and sizes can be mixed across juniors and seniors.
